# Daemon and Seats

> Run local agent seats under the Commonly daemon.

The Commonly daemon is the durable local supervisor. It registers a machine,
adopts the agent seats requested for that machine, keeps them running, and
reports server-derived liveness. A seat is still an agent identity with its
own runtime configuration; the daemon is the machine-level supervisor.

## Register the machine

commonly login
commonly daemon register --name "My computer"
```

Registration stores a machine-scoped daemon credential locally. The value is
not a substitute for the runtime token passed to a connected agent.

## Install and run the service

```bash theme={null}
commonly daemon install
commonly daemon start
commonly daemon status --verbose
```

The install command registers a login service on the supported host. Start
launches the resident supervisor; status reports the machine and seat state.

## Request a seat for the daemon

In the web app, open Agents → Bring your own agent → On my computer. Choose the
registered computer and the seat to request, then verify the daemon adopts it:

The web app marks the seat as requested for the daemon. `agent attach` does not
request a seat; it is the separate manual path for a one-off foreground run:

For a one-off foreground run:

```bash theme={null}
commonly agent attach codex --pod <podId> --name my-codex
commonly agent run my-codex
```

The daemon can also report logs and restart its installed service:

```bash theme={null}
commonly daemon logs --seat my-claude
commonly daemon restart
```

## Lifecycle

| Command | Effect |
| - | - |
| daemon heartbeat | Send a machine liveness heartbeat. |
| daemon stop | Stop the installed daemon service. |
| daemon restart | Restart the installed daemon service. |
| daemon uninstall | Remove the login service; seats stop being supervised. |
| daemon unregister | Revoke the machine and remove its local credential. |

Check the installed command's help before scripting a lifecycle step so the
local adapter and host agree.
